International Women’s Day 2026
This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to spotlight Mia Jones, whose route into health and safety proves that career paths don’t have to be linear to be impactful.
Mia’s journey has been anything but conventional.
After completing her A Levels, she joined C&A’s management training programme, rising to manage multiple London stores.
But her career took a new direction when she joined Huber Technology — transitioning from purchasing into health and safety.
Following her NEBOSH qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management and Construction, Mia progressed through SHEQ roles, achieving and maintaining ISO accreditations across Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality standards over a 13-year period.
A pivotal health & safety role at Hills Quarry Products
Since joining Hills as Health and Safety Manager, Mia has played a pivotal role in strengthening health and safety culture across Quarry Products’ sites.
As Mia explains: “Like at Hills, my colleagues at Huber Technology were predominantly men — but gender really doesn’t matter when it comes to keeping people safe at work.”
At Hills Quarry Products, collaboration is key. Working closely with Waste Solutions’ health and safety teams, Mia has helped roll out shared systems and efficiencies, including the EcoOnline reporting platform for near misses and incidents.
Her experience, knowledge and approachable leadership style ensure teams feel confident sharing insights and learning from one another, because health and safety is everyone’s responsibility.
This International Women’s Day, and everyday, we celebrate women like Mia who are shaping safer workplaces across our industry.
“Colleagues at our quarry and concrete sites are keen to share what they know and are always helpful and respectful.
Their experience continues to help me learn about the hazards in this environment”
– Mia Jones, Health & Safety Manager – Quarry Products
